The 'Check Engine' light comes on my dash, what's wrong? Is it safe to drive my
Today's vehicles have an onboard engine computer, what we call ECM (Electronic Control
Module) that controls the fuel injection system. The ECM monitors all the engine input sensors
and make adjustments on air/fuel ratio, ignition timing and emission, etc. When there is a problem
in your system, the ECM records the problem and stores a trouble code, then it turns the 'Check
Engine' light on.
Is it safe to drive? It depends on what trouble code is stored in the computer. In worst situation,
driving with check engine light may result in more damage to your vehicle. If your check engine
light came on or flashing, have the your vehicle inspected as soon as possible.
